Australian Mission to the Asian Financial Forum Hong Kong 13 – 17 January 2013
Caroline Hong joined an Australian delegation led by BRIC China Expert David Thomas of Think Global to the Asian Financial Forum in Hong Kong (AFF HK). The AFF HK was attended by 2300 delegates from all over the world for 2 days on 14 & 15 January 2013. Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, Wayne Swan also conducted a private briefing with the Australian delegation at the AFF HK. The delegation travelled to Shenzhen on 16 January, visiting the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, Futian, the new Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone, and Huawei headquarters. On the last day, 17 January 2013, the delegation attended an interactive Australasian Financial Forum at Citibank building in Hong Kong. Delegates had ample time to network and make new business connections every day at several social events at the AFFHK, AustCham HK cocktail, KIng & Wood & Malleson’s dinner and various bar hops in HK on the last day.
Caroline’s daughter, Vera Hong accompanied her on this trip to Hong Kong and stayed at the beautiful Conrad Hong Kong, enjoying the temporary comfort of a five star hotel, different from her filming life in the bush and often camping out in remote areas in NSW to tell compelling stories.
Vera Hong www.verahong.com will be releasing 16 short documentary films that she is finishing soon by April 2013. She has been documenting a 16 part series of short documentaries on sustainable grazing, covering graziers in Broken Hill and Lightning Ridge and regional NSW, working with the indigenous communities. A creative asian Aussie born film maker, who certainly needs every help possible to advance her passion for documenting compelling stories.
January is a special month every year for Caroline, as she heralds the new year every year with lots of birthday and new year treats, celebrating with special ones in her life. This year was a first that Caroline celebrated her birthday away from home. It was nice to kick start 18 January with champagne at midnight with friends and daughter Vera Hong at the Cafe Gray Bar at The Upper House. This incredible cafe sits on top of JW Marriot with stunning views of Victoria Harbour http://www.cafegrayhk.com. Then followed by Baileys at Conrad Hong Kong. Caroline also celebrated her birthday the week prior to leaving for Hong Kong with close friends and family in Sydney.
Special thanks go to David Thomas of Think Global for leading the Australian mission to the AFF HK 2013.
