Ms Anedia Kahar and Ms Amelia Roziman from the Sarawak Convention Bureau visited Sydney in July 2014 to explore a deeper understanding of working with the media and the business communities in Australia. They were warmly welcomed by the Australia Malaysia Business Council at a Sydney event, where the guest speaker was Austrade Malaysia’s Assistant Commissioner, Joel Backwell. Joel gave an excellent presentation on the topic of “Unlocking the treasure trove of opportunities in Malaysia”. The event was generously sponsored by Crowe Horwath in Sydney.

As a proud member of the Australia Malaysia Business Council (AMBC), I was pleased to invite Ms Anedia Kahar and Ms Amelia Roziman from the Sarawak Convention Bureau to join me at the AMBC networking event in Sydney. We were all warmly welcomed by the Australia Malaysia Business Council in Sydney. Joel Backwell, Austrade Malaysia‘s Assistant Commissioner gave an excellent presentation on the topic of “Unlocking the treasure trove of opportunities in Malaysia”. The event was generously sponsored by Crowe Horwath in Sydney.
In brief, the AMBC was established in 1987 with the goal of fostering, supporting and promoting business, investment and cultural opportunities between Australia and Malaysia, reinforcing the 50+ year relationship between the two countries that has grown and matured dramatically from one of support in the early years of Malaysia’s foundation to one of close collaboration and comprehensive partnership today. The AMBC works closely with the Malaysia Australia Business Council (MABC) to foster and strengthen bilateral business, investment and trade opportunities for Australians and Malaysians.
There are many opportunities for Australians in Malaysia an
d one way to find out more and to engage with Asia is to go there. Not once but several times a year if you are serious about doing business.
Australians have not yet fully taken advantage of the Malaysia Australia Free Trade Agreement (MAFTA) which was enacted in January 2013. Australian industries to benefit from the removal of barriers of trade, include milk; automotives; processed foods; plastics; chemicals and a range of manufactured products; wine; iron and steel; and rice. MIDA has an office in Sydney and they can provide more information on investment and development opportunities for Australians in Malaysia.
